Blog on my experiences through travel, reading, running and life

On Wednesday 13th May 2026, and Thursday 14th May 2026, Matt and I spent the 2 days in Port Macquarie on the North Coast of NSW before continuing our journey north to the Gold Coast in Queensland on Friday 15th May 2026.

We arrived in Port Macquarie mid-morning on Wednesday 13th after around a 3 hour drive, with a stop at Taree for a break. I had won an Instagram competition recently for a $100 voucher for a local Port Macquarie cafe, so we went to the business that I won that from to collect it first thing, and while there we went next door to have a browse of the Salvo’s Op Shop. Lunch was at a local pub – Tacking Point Tavern. We had quite a delicious lunch each from the Lunch specials part of the menu. I had the BLT which came with chips, while Matt had Fish & Chips, which came with salad and tartare sauce.

After checking in to our hotel – Mercure Centro Port Macquarie – we got a room with a balcony which we sat on in the evening with a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers, we went to Hydro Golf which is located at 10 Boundary Street, Port Macquarie, near Port Macquarie airport and had a go at the 27 hole putt putt course. The course might look easy, but as well know, looks can be deceiving. The dark blue surface hides the challenge of each hole quite well. Hydro Golf is open 7 days a week, with the combo deal of a bucket of balls and 1 round of 27 hole putt putt $20 for Adults & $16 for Children (15 years and under). Or if you’d prefer just to do the Aqua Golf or putt putt the prices are listed on their website and at the Hydro Golf centre.

Tacking Point Lighthouse is a lovely visit, with great views and also provides some great history. It was quite windy when we visited, but it was still stunning and well worth a visit. It would no doubt be great to visit at Sunrise.
