Blog on my experiences through travel, reading, running and life

Cakeboi (Reece Hignell – Masterchef alumni) and Crystalbrook Kingsley Executive Chef Joey Ingram have teamed up to create a High Tea collaboration experience at the Roundhouse at Crystalbrook Kingsley, Newcastle. Held every Saturday throughout April as part of Newcastle Food Month, 11:30am-3:30pm. Cost is $109 per person, add-ons (at an extra cost) include Specialty tea-infused cocktail menu or Free-flowing bubbles and rosé.

The inclusions that are a part of the High Tea are a glass of First Creek Wines rosé poured from the rosé tower; Signature High Tea tower with cakes, sweet creations, and savoury indulgences; freshly baked scones with house-made jam and rose chantilly cream; and a live cello and violin performance.

Matt and I booked our own High Tea on Saturday 11th April at 1:30pm, and included the free-flowing bubbles and rosé add-on to our experience. This is our second event for the 2026 Newcastle Food Month.

We were lucky enough to have a window table, to be able to enjoy the views of Newcastle from above, whilst also enjoying a most delightful, delicious selection of savory and sweet as part of the High Tea. We also enjoyed the First Creek sparkling wine throughout our High Tea, as well as the glass rosé that we got towards the end of our experience, that was poured from the tower during rosé service. We each had a pot of tea to enjoy as well, with Matt choosing English Breakfast and I chose Earl Grey.

The savory component of the High Tea consisted of mainly all seafood options, except for one. And anyone who knows me, knows I’m not the biggest eater of seafood, so going in to this High Tea without knowing the menu did make me a bit anxious. But in saying that, it was really only the scallop benedict and the prawn cocktail roll that I was a bit unsure about, but when I tried them both I quite liked and enjoyed them. (I think Matt was a little disappointed that her didn’t get my prawn roll lol).

Overall, we had the most enjoyable and delightful afternoon, enjoying some fantastic food, with the cello and violin blending nicely into the background to create an elegant backdrop to what was an elegeant and enjoyable afternoon.
